OBITUARY
OLLA M. PARREOTTT came into the world on July 19, 1937 in Lancaster, South Carolina to the late Iola V. and John Lee Stradford. She graduated from Barr Street High School in Lancaster, South Carolina, and North Carolina Central University, Durham, North Carolina. She took courses at Kean University of New Jersey. She worked summers for the Federal Government in the Department of Health, Education and Welfare, Washington, D.C.
While in College in her sophomore year 1956 she met a student with whom she became engaged. They were married in 1958 and after Graduation she moved to Asbury Park with her husband. She sought a job, and was employed by the IRS Office in Asbury Park. She later became a clerk in the Office of Attorney Shebell in Asbury Park for a short period of time. She applied for a teaching position in the Asbury Park School System and was immediately hired by Supt. Dr. Hill after an interview. She served at the Bangs Avenue School, on Bangs Avenue, the Bond Street School, on Bond Street, and Bradley Elementary School on Third Avenue where she taught Third Grade until her retirement 1992 after crediting 32 years of teaching.
She joined St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church under the pastorates of Rev. Obadiah Ghent Goodwin, Rev. Dr. W. Robert Johnson, Rev. Alexander Jones, Rev. Timothy Howard, and Rev. Derinzer Johnson. She sang in the Choir, served as Chairwoman of Woman’s Days, a Delegate to the Annual Conference, served as the President of the New Jersey A.M.E. Zion Church Conference Woman’s Auxiliary and a faithful supporter of the Church ministry. She followed her husband who became an ordained minister as he was an Assistant Pastor at St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church and pastored churches Dunston Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church , in Long Branch New Jersey, New Jerusalem A.M.E. Zion Church in Berkeley Township, South Toms River, New Jersey. They later in 1999 joined Good Samaritan Bright Star Church, Neptune, New Jersey, under the pastorate of the Late Rev. Dolphes A. Jones. She was elected as the Mother of the Church, a very faithful and supporter of the ministry. She also served at MLK Presbyterian Church when her husband served as interim pastor for them.
She also received numerous Proclamations , Resolutions, Plaques, from the New Jersey State Senate, New Jersey State General Assembly, Congressman Frank Pallone, Board of Chosen Freeholders Monmouth County, and the City of Asbury Park, Asbury Park Board of Education, New Jerusalem A.M.E. Zion Church, St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church, The New Jersey A.M.E. Zion Annual Conference, for her community and church service.
Olla departed this life on September 24, 2021 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center after a very short illness.
