James Robert Stanton Sr., son of the late John Stanton Sr, and Susie Leonard Stanton, was born August 9, 1940 at Monmouth Medical in Long Branch, New Jersey. He was called home to be with the Lord, on Friday, August 14, 2020 at Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, New Jersey.

James was raised in Red Bank, New Jersey and attended the Red Bank Public School System. He worked for Eatontown’s Public Works for over 25 years as a driver until he retired.

To those that knew him best, James was known as “Tommy.” James loved sports, horse racing, bears, watching movies, eating wings and coleslaw, collecting dollar bills, making rings out of 50 dollar bills, long talks and visits with his nieces, being outdoors, working on his cars, and feeding his squirrels. He was a great listener, but above all, James loved his family.

James is predeceased by his parents; brothers, John Stanton Jr., Elmore Stanton Sr., and Daniel Stanton Sr.; sisters, Laura Robinson, Ruth Davis, and Ann Rucker. Geraldine Stanton-Brown was his former wife and good friend and from that union four children were born, Joslin, James, Jacelyn, and Jennifer.

He leaves to cherish his memory is his son, James R. Stanton Jr.; his three daughters, Joslin Stanton, Jacelyn Stanton, and Jennifer Stanton; his two brothers, Thomas Stanton Sr. and Robert Stanton Sr.; two sisters, Mary Henry and Katherine Lundy; daughter-in-law, Sandra Stanton; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and treasured friends.
