Ernestine Laurette Martin Lattimer-Gill, daughter of the late Ernest and Ella Martin was born June 13, 1946, in Long Branch, NJ. She resided in Red Bank, NJ for most of her life where she graduated from high school.  Ernestine graduated from Bluefield State College, in Bluefield West Virginia.

Ernestine gave her life to Christ at an early age. She was baptized at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Red Bank, NJ, where she remained a devoted and active member until the onset of her long illness.  She was a member of the Sunday School, Junior Usher Board, Youth Choir, Women’s Ministry, Vacation Bible School and always actively supported the Youth Ministry.

Ernestine met Robert (Bob) L. Lattimer and was united in holy matrimony in 1970.  To this union two daughters were born, Ebony and Tapestry-Hope.

Ernestine was an accomplished career woman.  She began her work as a social worker and later transitioned into working as an Account Manager at Flori Roberts Cosmetics Company where she spent many years.  Ernestine then worked for Lucent Technologies, formerly Bell Laboratory, in Holmdel, NJ, for over 20 years earning her retirement as she held several positions within that company.  Never being one to sit idle, Ernestine went to  work for Macy’s Department Stores and then Easter Seals of the Jersey Shore.

Ernestine was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.  She never missed any of her children’s or “her grands” extra-curricular events and served as the president of the Red Bank Regional Booster Club and a lead member of the parent group for Programs for the Acceleration of Careers in Engineering (PACE-Monmouth).  She would always be seen and heard supporting cheerleading events, track and field, softball games, swimming, gymnastics, crew meets, soccer games, basketball games, football games and never missed a chorus event, dance recital, school play, honor roll assembly or any event where her children or “grands” were taking part.

Ernestine was committed to serving her community.  Her favorite activity was always being with her sorors of the Monmouth County Alumnae Chapter of her beloved sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, where she is a Life Member.

She leaves to cherish her loving memory: her two daughters Ebony of Eatontown, NJ, and Tapestry-Hope of Neptune, NJ; her bonus daughters Tammy Lane, Tiesha Lane, Pam Lane and Deirdre Matthews; her step-children Towanda Gill, Stephanie Renee Gostin, and Willie Gill, Jr.; the true lights of her life, her “ grands” Nijhier A. Jules, Kufere Laing, Asia Wilson,  Samonya Copeland, Masai Mack, Louis Pennington, Jr., Semaj Pennington, Elon (Pepper) Lattimer, LaTara Lane, Ahjia Lane, Zhane Lane, Ajee Lane, Chyna Gaskins, Tahji Tomaino, Chris Outerbridge, Ne’Lyanii Thavone, and Monae Perry; her cousins Theresa Blount, Joan P. Gibbs, Monique Mackey, Deidre Luster, Craig Hamlet, Jonetta Adams, and Hassan Williams; her dearest friends Alyce Johnson-Cole, Rochelle Richardson and Tavia Robinson; her ex-husband and devoted life companion Willie James Gill, Sr.; her beloved caregiver Barbara Smith and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
