Ernest worked various jobs including janitorial and construction.  He loved telling people that he helped build Great Adventure.  He was an excellent handy-man along with being an excellent painter.  He was a member of J. T. Newman's Lodge and Local 343 Local Union of Neptune, NJ.  He was a member of the J. T. Newman’s Lodge bowling team.  His favorite NFL Team was the Dallas Cowboys with his favorite saying being “It don’t matter to me whether they win or lose they’re not putting any money in my pocket”.  Ernest enjoyed going to the Penn Relays and to visit his family in Washington, DC especially riding the train with his daughter Cindy, his “Ride or Die”.  Cindy and Ernest would visit his cousins Charles and Janie Cuffie who named Ernest “Waterboy”.

Ernest was predeceased by his parents Lester and Martha Johnson; his brother Jimmy Johnson; his son Ernest N. Johnson (December 25, 2022); his wife Charlie Mae Johnson (January 28, 2023); and his son-in-law Randall S. Hill.
