Audrey Camille Askew-Collins, also known as Missy, was born on August 17, 1958, in Lakewood, New Jersey. She was called home on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at her residence. She was the second oldest of five children born to the late Carleton Peter and Florine Edith Askew.
Audrey’s formal education began in the Lakewood School District where she obtained her high school diploma from Lakewood High School in 1976. Around 1982, Audrey traveled to California for modeling and lived there for a year. Together since 1990, Audrey was joined in matrimony to Randy Collins in 2008.
Audrey was employed at Quick Chek for over 20 years as a cook. Any time you mentioned her name, people would say, “She made the best chicken and subs.” From 2018 until, she worked as a Home Companion for a few clients. She loved her clients and they absolutely loved her so much that they offered her the opportunity to work for them outside of the company.
In 2017, Audrey started attending No Limit Worship Center in Lakehurst, NJ under the leadership of Bishop Bernard and the late First Lady Lorraine Jordan. During this time is when she gave her life to Christ. In January 2023, she was invited by her niece, Amber Sutton, to join prayer calls. During this time, Audrey rededicated her life back to Christ. She didn’t say much on the prayer calls, but during the last call she was on, a couple of weeks before her departure, was when she spoke the most.
Though Audrey did not have any biological children, she treated her sister's six children as her own from the time they were born. After the passing of her sister in 2012, Audrey gravitated to her nieces and nephews even more. They made sure that she was at every event including graduations, holidays, birthdays, baby showers, and business grand-openings. Her sister’s children made sure that their aunt was very well taken care of, especially as life’s challenges started to prevail in Audrey’s life. She had a close relationship with her oldest brother, Carlton, who also cared for her well-being and made sure she was good to the best of his abilities. In spite of all, Audrey always remained persistent in not allowing life’s challenges to keep her down.
Audrey loved to dance, especially when it came to Jamaican music; her favorite sports team was the Dallas Cowboys; and she enjoyed cooking and getting together with her family and friends. With her husband being of Jamaican descent, Audrey’s favorite cuisine to prepare was Jamaican food where she had 33 years of experience learning and mastering the Jamaican way of cooking. When her sister was here, her sister would have her prepare some Jamaican items for catered events. Audrey also loved African food where her niece, Amber, would bring her back African food every time she traveled to Philadelphia.
Audrey was predeceased by her parents, Carleton Peter and Florine Edith Askew, and her sister, Tracey Lynn Askew-Sutton.
Surviving to cherish her memory are her husband, Randy Collins; her “children”, Amber, Brielle, Chelsea, De’Ja, Ee’Van, and Fe’Jon Sutton; her sister-in-love, Stephanie Cooper; her brother-in-love, Anthony Sutton, Sr.; her brothers, Carlton, and Brian (Jackie), Peter Askew; her long-time best friend Alice Coleman; her special great-niece whom she called cupcake, croissant, or whatever food name that came to mind starting with the letter ‘C’, Chrisette; and a host of other nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends whom she loved dearly.
